KITCHENAID MICROWAVE & OVEN COMBO: FIXING POWER & DOOR SENSOR ISSUES

The root cause was a faulty Door Interlock Switch. In these premium KitchenAid Architect® Series combo units, the door switches act as critical safety sensors. One of the primary micro-switches had suffered internal mechanical failure, preventing the microwave from recognizing that the door was closed. As a result, the control board blocked all functions, leaving the microwave completely inoperable while the lower oven remained powered.
The Solution To restore safety and functionality, we performed the following steps:
  1. Genuine Parts: We sourced and installed a brand-new original KitchenAid OEM high-temp door interlock switch. We recommend replacing the entire switch bracket assembly to ensure perfect alignment with the door hooks.
  2. Professional Installation: As shown in the photo, repairing a built-in combo unit requires careful extraction from the cabinetry using professional lifts. We disassembled the top electronics housing, discharged the high-voltage capacitor for safety, and replaced the defective switch.
  3. Testing: We performed a door-latch continuity test and a microwave leakage test. The unit now starts instantly when the door is closed, and all safety protocols are fully functional.
The Result The appliance is now back to factory-standard performance. Our client in Austin saved the significant cost of replacing a high-end $4,000+ combo unit by opting for a precise, professional repair.
The root cause was a failed Primary Door Interlock Switch. The microwave display was active, and the timer would count down, but the unit failed to heat, and the glass turntable would not rotate. In GE built-in models, a faulty door switch breaks the high-voltage circuit and the motor drive as a safety precaution, even if the door appears tightly closed.
The Solution To restore full functionality and safety, we performed the following steps:
  1. Genuine Parts: We installed a brand-new original GE OEM high-temp door micro-switch. We also inspected the secondary and monitor switches to ensure the entire latch assembly was in perfect working order.
  2. Professional Installation: As shown in the diagnostic photo, we disassembled the outer cabinet to access the switch bracket. We safely discharged the high-voltage capacitor, replaced the defective switch, and cleaned the door strike pins for a secure mechanical connection.
  3. Testing: Conducted a continuity test on all interlock circuits and verified that both the heating system and the turntable motor engaged immediately upon starting a cycle.
The Result The appliance is now back to factory-standard performance. Our Austin homeowner avoided the high cost of a new built-in unit and the complicated re-installation of a matching trim kit.

Don’t rush to replace your expensive built-in microwave and custom trim kit. Most issues—including magnetron failure and door interlock problems—can be repaired for a fraction of the cost of a new unit.
Our team is equipped to diagnose and repair the most frequent microwave malfunctions:
  • Microwave Not Heating: Often caused by a failed high-voltage magnetron, capacitor, or a blown diode.
  • Sparking Inside the Cavity: Usually due to a damaged waveguide cover or food residue buildup causing electrical arcing.
  • Turntable Not Rotating: We replace faulty drive motors and roller assemblies to ensure even cooking.
  • Microwave Won't Turn On / No Power: This often stems from a tripped thermal fuse, a broken door interlock switch, or a faulty main control board.
  • Loud Humming or Buzzing: A sign of a failing transformer or magnetron that requires immediate professional attention.
  • Touchpad or Buttons Not Working: We repair unresponsive membrane switches and control panel assemblies.

Heating element went out in our dryer. Uniqpro technician Dimitri was wonderful. He also found that white thing in the middle was very worn. He gave the entire dryer a checkup! He replaced the white thing at cost of the part. Very clean, affordable, professional. Fast response with accurate quote.

We will be calling Dimitri again.

I’ve got respond in 10 min after I post my order and the tech was in my house next day. He gave me very detailed evaluation what should be repair for very reasonable price, without upselling! He fixed ice maker in my Samsung fridge, replaced a water filter and in addition for the same price cleaned vacuumed condenser coil, fan, etc.

GREAT 5 STAR SERVICE! Thank you.

Dmitri helped us with very short notice. He efficiently and expertly repaired our Asko washing machine. I was expecting to wait weeks to get in with a certified Asko repair person however he was very familiar with Asko and better than anyone we have. He is smart, knowledgeable and very kind. His price was extremely fair, almost too little for what the work he did.

Highly recommend!

I plan on using Dimitri whenever I need an appliance repair moving forward. He's an experienced and very sweet young man who is starting his own repair business and he responded quickly to my Yelp inquiry. He was at my home within 2 hours to replace the faulty oven ignition in my 5 year old Samsung range. He was in and out in just an hour, and again he was very kind and his pricing was very reasonable. Thanks Dimitri!
